History and Archives of the Moulin Maréchal

As a preliminary note: most of the attached archives can be consulted in the municipal archives of Saint-Brieuc.

1 Geographic location and names.

The mill is located on the banks of the Gouët River on the Plérin side in:

The Boissières fiefdom, itself located under the jurisdiction of La Roche Suhart,

La Roche Suhart was in Buhen, which is part of Goëlo.

The lordship of Buhen extended into the parishes of Plourhan, Lantic, Etables, Pordic, Trégomeur, Plouvara, Lanvollon, and Plouha; the fiefs of La Bassecourt, Ville-Hellou, and Tourguigné were also under its jurisdiction.

The surface area of ??Goëlo changed over time, especially after the release of the Duke of Brittany, John V, in 1420, who confiscated the property of those who had conspired against him.

2 The evolution of the name of the Maréchal mill and the spelling variations.

The Bouessières mill in 1420 (in 1642 we find the name Moulin Maréchal in a list of tithes)

The Bouëxières mill in 1683

Otherwise known as Le Maréchal since 1440

Le Moulin Maréchal from 1789

and sometimes Le Moulin de Maréchal

3 Nearby buildings.

There was only one congealable farm that belonged to the same lord and was held by the Gaubert family.

4 The order of the lordships owners

A succession document drawn up after the death of Radegonde de Rosmadec (1642) specifies the former lords.

Radegonde de Rosmadec had married Thibaud de Boisgelin.

After her death, the mill remained in the Boisgelin family, then Kergorlay, sometimes written Guergorlay.

Owner De Boisgelin, before Rosmadec, before La Roche Jagu

5 Boundaries of the Boissières fief

The perimeter of the fief begins at the manor of the town of Sollon, continues towards the factory in the center of Plérin and descends towards the Veillard mill.

Passing not far from Rue du Pigeon Blanc, it runs along the Gouët to the small stream at the end of the millrace of the Maréchal mill, then goes up along this stream to the village of Plessis (which was in Plérin at that time) and returns to the manor via
